Blogspiration: Companionship of bicycles

The trouble with having an outdoor-themed blog is that the subject-at-hand too often serves as a convenient distraction from writing.

Encouraged in part by the sheer joy of exercising and in part by the recent and unfortunate loss of my 30-day subway card, I have been cycling a lot lately.

When I stumbled across this article in my Twitter feed, the following line caught my eye:

"Bicycles will refuse to do anything for you, but [they] will gladly do anything with you."

Oh, how wonderfully true.

Bicycling eases feelings of stress. It inspires some of my most productive and creative days. It carries me through my city and to new places. It sparks conversation with complete strangers. It encourages confidence, health, and joy.

It's not the bicycle, though, that causes these things to happen. It is I. The bicycle is just along for the ride.

  2. I agree. Although I enjoy solitary time to think and get away from the madness of daily life, some of my favorite bicycling adventures have been with other people. Either way, bicycles rule.

  3. You know you can get a replacement for the 30 day card, right? I think they'll only replace it ONCE but you do have that option.

Anyhoo, I love this quote! Is it weird that I feel this way about my dirty, old converses? Um...I can't ride a bike :/ and my converses have gone all over the world with me. So I have this crazy attachment to them.

    1. Haha, that's what everyone immediately says when I mention losing my card. Unfortunately, that's only true if you purchase the card at a MetroCard machine with a credit or debit card. I get my subway cards from work. They're taken straight out of my paycheck, pre-tax. Sweet deal... until you lose one!

    2. Also, Converse sneakers rock. I have had many a love affair with Chuck Taylors. Not weird at all ;)

OH GOODNESS DO I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. I mean, it's true about bookg blogging, too... it's hard to read a book when you're spending hours on the internet, but that aside, ski season has just started (along with Winter) in Australia, and skiing is how I would spend ALL my time if I had half the chance. I kind of have these moments when I feel almost guilty for neglecting my reading and blogging, and then, inversely, neglecting my husband and skiing for reading and blogging! Dilemma! But truly, what's there to feel guilty about being outdoors amongst nature and with my husband and... ALSO! BIKING! I LOVE riding, and I so need to pull my bike out of the garage and get moving again. I LOVE this post ♥

    1. Oh, skiing! Do you go alpine skiing or cross-country? If I plan on moving to Salt Lake City, Utah, I'd better get my skiing game on, too!

We should probably just count ourselves lucky for having so many awesome passions in our lives :) Whether you're skiing, biking, reading, writing, or spending time with loved ones, life is good. Hope you get some good snow!

      THIS IS SO TRUE.

I alpine ski. I was meant to try cross country with my husband's cousin in Whistler last year, but it didn't happen :)
